Praia do Beliche

Worth a detour.

The hang

Sagres-adjacent, cliff-ringed, and the kind of beach that makes you feel small in the right way. A wide scallop of sand beneath 60-meter ochre walls, with the Atlantic coming in cold and serious. It's sheltered from the worst of the Sagres wind, which means it's the beach the locals use when everything else is getting torn apart. The view west is the end of Europe. Literally — that's it, then ocean, then New York.

The real intel

Best months
May–Oct. September is the prize — warm, quiet, the wind eases.
Getting there
5 min east of Sagres. Big parking lot, stairs down.
Where to stay
Sagres. Surf-hostel or hotel. The village is small but it has everything you need.
Cost reality
Free. Sunbeds €12/day. Sagres restaurants €15–30/pp.
The catch nobody tells you
The wind. Even sheltered, Beliche catches it in the afternoon. Go mornings. And the water is the cold Atlantic — 17°C on a warm day.

The crowd

Locals, surfers, travelers who drove past Cabo de São Vicente and kept going. Never crowded because the wind filters it.

The receipts

The stairs down are steep and the cliff sheds rock occasionally. The western end of the beach disappears at high tide — check the chart.
