Which Country Has the Most Bitches?
We counted every beach on eleven coastlines. The winner starts a fight — and the honest answer isn't who you think.
It's the only question that matters and nobody has counted honestly. So we did. We pulled every mapped beach off eleven coastlines — real geometry, real coordinates, no vibes — and ranked them. Here's who's holding the most sand.
The standings (so far)
| # | Country | Beaches surveyed |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Greece | 1,893 |
| 2 | Australia | 1,475 |
| 3 | Italy | 1,363 |

Greece runs away with it — 1,893 and counting, an entire nation that is essentially a rumor of a mainland surrounded by beaches. Every island is a fistful of coves. It's not a country, it's a beach delivery mechanism with a flag.
Greece isn't a country. It's a beach delivery mechanism with a flag.
The catch: we've only judged eleven
Here's where we keep it honest. That board is the eleven coastlines we've surveyed — not the planet. Zoom out and the real answer changes, and it's funnier.
Australia has been counted properly, once, by a man who dedicated his career to it: coastal scientist Andrew Short catalogued 10,685 beaches around the continent. Ten thousand. That's not a coastline, that's a personality disorder. So the true beach-count crown almost certainly belongs to Australia — a place actively trying to kill you at every one of them.
Want the most coastline? That's Canada, at roughly 202,080 km — most of it too cold to take your coat off, let alone anything else. Most islands to hide a beach on? Indonesia, with something like 17,500 of them. The Philippines is close behind and we've barely scratched it — 408 surveyed out of a country that is 82% water and 100% opportunity.
The verdict
Of everywhere we've actually judged: Greece, and it's not close. Of everywhere that exists: Australia, by a landslide, with a body count to match. Either way, the honest headline is the same — you will die before you run out of beaches, so stop reading lists and go.
